Placing Concrete Chipping Safety Front and Center

At General Chipping, we’re proud to say our team is laser focused on concrete chipping safety. Nobody benefits from an unsafe work environment, least of all the professionals you trust with your redi mix concrete chipping work. You can take comfort knowing we go to great lengths to ensure the safety of our people, your people and your fleet.

Many of our concrete chippers have been in the industry for five or more years, ensuring they don’t just understand how to chip concrete from your mixing drums and clear clumped material from your cement silos — but how to go about the work in the right way. Of course, experience is just half the battle. We also go to great lengths to ensure our concrete chippers are in the know regarding best practices and industry technologies, and that they’re working in the safest and most efficient manner possible.

General Chipping encourages a culture of safety through ongoing education, a focus on proper procedures and a drive to continually improve our practices.

How Does General Chipping Keep Teams Safe on the Job?

It’s all about regularly reminding every concrete chipper on the crew of the dangers associated with such work — and the best way to handle any concrete chipping silo cleaning or central mixer cleaning project. We do this in a few ways.

In-House OSHA Safety Courses

With help from our company safety consultant, we regularly bring our redi mix concrete chipping pros together to discuss the latest OSHA mandates, safety considerations that come into play on the job site and even the proper approach to personal protective equipment (PPE). These educational events often provide hands-on training opportunities that go beyond simple book learning.

Certifications and Insurance in Place

At General Chipping, we know the value of having our ducks in a row — not just for our own protection, but yours. Our team members maintain up-to-date licenses and certifications to ensure they are always in the loop regarding the best way to go about your work. We also have insurance in place, should injuries or damage come into play during an appointment.

Safety Toolbox Talks

Even the most qualified of team members can become complacent when they’ve become accustomed to a job. Our toolbox talks give us the opportunity to gather our concrete chippers together to discuss issues specific to our company or a job site. Whether we’re going over considerations for a concrete mixer or silo that requires extra TLC or providing constructive reminders about safety best practices, the goal is to make sure every member of the team is on the same page and performing to the best of their ability.

Remember: Concrete Chipping Work Should Always be Left to the Pros

Flying debris, fall risks, air quality issues and other hazards make silo cleaning and concrete chipping work inherently dangerous. Allowing an untrained team member to attempt the work could result in life-changing injuries — or even death. Trust the work to a team that is trained specifically to take on the task safely.

General Chipping’s concrete blog covers a wide range of topics aimed at educating, enlightening and encouraging a safer work environment. From the dangers associated with chipping concrete or cleaning cement silos, to the proper PPE for the work and even ways to keep crew members better protected in extreme weather, it’s your one-stop shop for all things safety and concrete work.
